Swedish Radio - Construction Companies Took the Lead for the Green City

"It was the construction companies that came up with the initiative when Umeå now builds the sustainable district Tomtebo Strand. It started with Skanska, in collaboration with the network for Sustainable Construction, joining forces with Peab, NCC, HSB, and Riksbyggen. The entrepreneurs approached Umeå Municipality and got the politicians on board. Now, two years later, the parties have jointly developed an ambitious plan for Tomtebo Strand as an international role model for sustainable urban development."
